Recall of Parliament - 12 April 2025

Published: 11 April 2025

Following the announcement that Parliament is to be recalled on Saturday 12 April, below is a reminder of the costs MPs can request from IPSA to return to Parliament for the debate.

Section 10.13 of The Scheme sets out the rules for the recall of Parliament: In the event of a recall of Parliament during recess, IPSA will pay claims for any reasonable travel by MPs and their spouses, partners or dependants to Westminster or their London Area residence. This includes international travel back to the UK and, if necessary, return travel to the foreign location, from which they were recalled. MPs will be expected to claim for standard class or equivalent fares unless they have no alternative, or there is a more cost-effective option available.

IPSA will fund travel by MPs, their spouses, partners or dependants to Westminster or their London residence. This includes international travel back to the UK if needed.

  • If needed, please reschedule pre-booked flights and other travel where possible to reduce the additional costs. We will pay for any administrative fees which are charged.

  • If you need a hotel, prices in London may be higher over the Easter period. The London hotel nightly limit has recently been increased to £230.

  • We recommend booking through the Parliamentary Travel Office. If you book a hotel stay yourself, please do your best to find the best value option. We will accept reasonable claims over the normal limit.

  • All payment cards are active and we have increased the credit limit to £8k and the single transaction limit to £4k.

  • If you experience any difficulties making an online payment please refer to our authorisation guidance, as two factor authentication will be required.

Staff members are not included in the recall to Parliament and we do not pay for international travel for staff. Costs related to staff members are at MPs’ discretion and can be claimed under normal Scheme rules from existing budgets.
